Acetone and Expanded Polystyrene👩‍🔬HOMEMADE EXPERIMENT🧪MAGIC dissolution🫢Science experiment ⚠️

How can these expanded polystyrene figures magically disappear? ?

It's not magic, it's science. And the figures we see are made of expanded polystyrene, also known as styrofoam., unicel or telgopor.

This material is a foamed plastic composed of a 98% of the volume by air and only in a 2% by solid matter (polystyrene).

Acetone is a volatile organic solvent, flammable and transparent, characteristic odor capable of dissolving polystyrene, since it breaks its composition chain and releases the air inside the foam, mostly composed of air.

Uses of expanded polystyrene:

The most important ones are:

-Packaging and packaging of various food products and merchandise

-Thermal and acoustic insulation

-Lightening material for structures in the construction sector.

Home experiment: material and precautions

If you decide to do this experiment at home:

1. You must be an adult.

2.The materials needed are:

-pure acetone

-polystyrene figures

-Gloves (advisable)

-Face mask (advisable)
